Slow Cooker Challenge August – Preserves

Uncategorized | August 2, 2014 | By

August is a month of plenty and a time when traditionally we preserve the fruits and vegetables from our gardens and markets by making jams, jellies, curds, chutney and relish and even some bottling and canning.  The Slow Cooker is ideal for making some preserves and can be used for softening the fruit for those that need a rapid boil on the stove to bring to a set.

One day I'll have a kitchen big enough for a slow cooker! lol I love the idea of slow cooker preserves

Just wondering how you make jam in a slow cooker? Have been thinking off and on about entering the Jampionships, but so little time. Will have to investigate.

Sarah James

What a coincidence ! I made some Peach Jam in my slow cooker yesterday, hope to have my blog post ready soon & I'll link it up to your challenge.

Oh that's great Sarah, hopefully will encourage others to have a go!

I love all your posts on slow cookers. I really want to get one especially if I could make jam in it. Can you recommend a good one? x

Mine is a Morphy Richards and the bowl is non-stick metal. You can put it straight on the hob to brown meat which means one less pan to wash! You might be better asking on Twitter or Facebook to see what everyone thinks. I've been very happy with mine and am now slightly obsessed as you may have noticed!
