Wholemeal Irish Soda Bread
A simple quick bread that you can make in your airfryer!
- 200 g Wholemeal or Spelt Flour
- 100 g plain white flour
- 50 g rolled oats
- 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black treacle or molasses
- 250 ml buttermilk
Preheat the Healthy Fry and grease and flour the baking tin which comes with the air fryer.
Mix the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl, then make a well in the centre, add the treacle or molasses and the buttermilk and draw in the flour until you have a soft dough.
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and shape into a round. Make a deep cross in the top of the dough and place in the baking tin.
Place into the Healthy Fry and set the temperature to 195C for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 180C and bake for a further 20 - 25 minutes.
Remove from the tin and put on a cooling tray. Serve with butter or on it's own with homemade soup.
To bake the Wholemeal Soda Bread in a conventional oven
- Preheat the oven to 250C
- Once you have made the dough, place on a floured baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes.
- Reduce the oven temperature to 200C and bake for a further 20-25 minutes.
