Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Truffles are a rich and delicious homemade candy.  They are easy to make and safely recreate the wonderful memories of scaping the last of the dough from the bowl.

I was never very keen on eating uncooked dough and cake mixture as a child.  The only bowl I wanted to scape was the one for the buttercream icing. 

Because of this, it was with a little trepidation that I agreed to review The Cookie Dough Lovers Cookbook by Lindsay Landis, published by Quirk Publishing.

Is it safe to eat Cookie Dough?

This is not raw cookie dough as we know it, for making cookies,  it’s specially formulated cookie dough that is eggless, completely safe and tastes divine eaten raw.

The basis of most of the recipes in the book is a  chocolate chip cookie dough that is packed full of butter and sugar but really very simple to make.  I’ve included the recipe at the end of this article. 

The Cookie Dough recipe comes with variations including peanut butter, vegan/dairy-free, gluten-free and lots of different combinations of spices, sugars, and nuts.

The Verdict

As I said at the beginning, I really wasn’t sure if I would like cookie dough.  However, I am totally converted to this sweet treat.  

To stop us from eating them all ourselves, both my husband and I  took come truffles into wor. The Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Truffles were a huge hit, with comments such as “Do they have alcohol in them?” which must be the vanilla and “Delicious, would be great at Christmas”.

There are so many interesting recipes in the Cookie Dough Lovers Cookbook that I’m sure I will be trying more. 

Cookie Dough is high in fat and sugar so best enjoyed in small quantities on special occasions.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Truffles

Ingredients

For the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

  • 100 grams (0.5 cups) unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 50 grams (0.25 cups) granulated sugar
  • 100 grams (0.5 cups) light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoon (2 tablespoon) milk or cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon (1/2 teaspoon) vanilla extract
  • 150 grams (1.25 cups) plain flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1/4 teaspoon) salt
  • 100 grams (0.5 cups) mini dark chocolate chips

For the Truffles

  • 200 grams dark chocolate or 100g dark chocolate and 100g milk chocolate
  • 1 teaspoon sprinkles

Instructions
 

For the Cookie Dough

  • In a large bowl, beat butter and sugars with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Mix in milk and vanilla. Stir in flour and salt and mix on low speed (or by hand) until incorporated. Stir in chocolate chips.
  • The dough can be enjoyed immediately or store, covered or in an airtight container in the refrigerator, for up to 3 days.

For the Truffles

  • Form the dough into small balls and arrange on a baking sheet lined with baking parchment. Place in the freezer for about 15 minutes.
  • Melt 200g dark chocolate in a double boiler or a bowl over a pan of water. Using two forks dip the cookie dough balls in the melted chocolate and replace on the baking parchment.
  • Decorate with sprinkles or dust with edible glitter. Or you could wait until the chocolate is set and pipe over some white chocolate.

  1. I am sending a link to this to my workmate who is FOREVER sending me links to cookie dough recipes. I've always told her that my mum said eating raw dough would give you a tummy ache… so, what I really want to know is, how are these tummy-ache free?!

  2. Janice, this cookie dough really sounds lovely. I would have good use for it … eat it right away, altough that truffels are nice, too!
